Amos Crowder, Sr. 77 of near Cates on Veedersburg Rt 2 died at 4:10 a.m. Monday (April 19, 1971) at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Ill. Born May 19, 1883 in Fulton Twp of Fountain County, he was the son of Samuel and Rose Teegarden Crowder. He married Maude C. Witsman Jan 23, 1905. He had resided in the Cates area except for a short time in Benton Harbor MI. He was a 50 year member of both the Yeddo Masonic Lodge 6363 F&AM and the Modern Woodmen of America. Survivors include his widow; four sons, Eaustin and Orie of Veedersburg Rt 2; Keith of Dekalb Ill and Amos Jr. of Baroda MI; four daughters, Mrs. Emma Hacker and Mrs. Vera Brooks both of Benton Harbor; Mrs. Catherine Boehm of Beech Grove and Mrs. Robert Nieman of Danville 30 grandchildren; 71 great grandchildren and 3 great greats. He was preceded in death by two sons. He was the last of 9 children. Services will be at 2 pm EST Wednesday at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington with Rev. Alfred Dobbs officiating. Burail will be in Cooper's Cem. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m Tuesday. Masonic services will be at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Cates - Amos Crowder, 87 of Rt 2, Veedersburg, a retired farmer and life resident of the Cates area, died at 5:10 a.m. Monday in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Danville, Ill where he had been a patient nine days. He was a 50-year-member of both Yeddo Lodge 636 F&AM and Modern Woodmen Lodge. Mr. Crowder was the last of a family of 9 children. He was born May 19, 1883 in Fulton Township, Fountain County, a son of Samuel I. and Rose E. Teegarden Crowder. He was married Jan 24, 1905 to Maude C. Witsman, who survives. Also surviving are four sons, Eaustin and Ora of Rt. 2, Veedersburg, Keith of DeKalb, Ill and Amos Jr. of Baroda, Mich; four daughters, Mrs. Emma Hacker and Mrs. Vera Brooks of Benton Harbor, Mich; Mrs. Catherine Boehm of Beech Grove and Mrs. Roberta Nieman of Danville, Ill; 30 grandchildren, 71 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Two sons preceded Mr. Crowder in death. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington with Rev. Alfred Dodds officiating and burial in Coopers Cemetery. Masonic rites will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where friends may call after 2 p.m.
